Southdale Edina Neighborhood Map

The Southdale Neighborhood is located in the Southeast quadrant of the city of Edina.  It is bounded on the North by Hwy 62, on the East by York Avenue, on the South by 70th Street and on the West by Valley View Road.  Its namesake, is the infamous Southdale (Southdale Center, Southdale Mall), built in 1956.  It is famous for being the nation’s first enclosed, climate-controlled shopping center. It was developed by the Dayton Company and designed to be a modern town-center.  Initially it had a post office, grocery store and even a zoo, in addition to its retail stores. The Southdale neighborhood also boasts another shopping complex, the  Galleria, a very upscale mall that was an addendum to the Gabberts store, constructed in 1976 and forward.  Southdale Medical Center, medical office space, and several multi-unit/story residences are located within this neighborhood, as well.
