White Oaks

The White Oaks neighborhood resides in the Northeast quadrant of the city of Edina.  It is bounded on the North by (roughly) 46th Street/Sunnyside Road, on the East by France Avenue, on the South by (roughly) 49th Street and on the West by Maple Road. White Oaks is a residential neighborhood with several twisting roads weaving through it. Aptly named for its abundance of trees (White Oaks) and hilly terrain, it was not included in the platting of the nearby Country Club district due to its rugged topography.  The 40 acres of White Oaks land was originally part and parcel of the Baird Farm.  The rest of the Baird farmland had been sold to Thorpe Brothers Realty for development of the Country Club District in 1922.  It was sold separately from the White Oaks parcel, acquired by the Ecklund family in 1936. The unique landscape of the neighborhood has been preserved with some of its majestic oaks dating back 150 years or more.
